What We Hold As True
The Baptist General State Convention of Illinois, Inc. gathers member churches around shared Baptist convictions and a commitment to growing in faith together. As a body affiliated with the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., the convention seeks to encourage its member congregations, pastors, and leaders in living out their beliefs within their local communities across Illinois.
Our theme, "Seasons of Growth: Growing With God Spiritually," reflects an ongoing emphasis on spiritual development within the churches and individuals connected to the convention.
Member churches and their leaders are encouraged to explore the convention's Our Churches directory to connect with fellow congregations, and to visit the Home page for an overview of the convention's leadership and affiliations.
Growing Together
Faith, fellowship, and service remain central to the convention's identity, uniting churches and leaders — including figures such as Bro. Milton Taylor within the parent body — under a shared season of spiritual growth.
At the heart of the Baptist General State Convention of Illinois is a shared conviction that faith must be lived out daily, both in worship and in service. Member churches unite around core Baptist principles that emphasize the authority of Scripture, the importance of prayer, and the call to share the gospel through evangelism. This season of growth challenges believers to deepen their spiritual walk, strengthen their families, and build loving communities where the presence of God is made real through genuine fellowship. From the pulpit to the pew, from auxiliary meetings to congregational gatherings, the convention encourages every member to embrace personal transformation that flows outward into meaningful ministry and compassionate outreach throughout the region.
The convention's commitment to spiritual growth extends across all generations and ministries, from the women's and laymen's auxiliaries to nurses, ushers, and Christian education departments. Through prayer, worship, and the faithful study of God's Word, individuals are equipped to serve their churches and communities with wisdom and love. Recognizing that growth happens in seasons, the convention provides resources, gatherings, and pastoral support to help churches navigate every stage of their journey together. Whether through congress sessions, auxiliary meetings, or times of intercession, the goal remains constant: that every believer would mature in faith, reflect the character of Christ, and carry the message of hope to a world in need.
